Marcin Durlak

Marcin is Managing Partner and co-founder of IMD Solicitors. Since the firm was founded in 2015, IMD has grown from a small specialist practice into a multidisciplinary law firm serving individuals, families and businesses, particularly those whose lives and commercial interests cross borders.

Today, Marcin’s focus is on leading the firm: setting its strategic direction, developing its people and leadership, identifying opportunities for growth and building an ambitious, modern and internationally minded law firm. IMD’s vision is to become the number one choice for global families and businesses with a global mindset, and the firm every lawyer wants to join.

A solicitor qualified in England and Wales, Marcin has a professional background in corporate and commercial law. IMD’s Corporate & Commercial team has progressed in The Legal 500 from Firm to Watch to Tier 3 in just two years, now appearing alongside much larger and more established law firms.

Central to Marcin’s approach to leadership is a philosophy of sustainable excellence: achieving excellent outcomes for IMD’s clients, its people and the firm without sacrificing the people delivering them, and doing so in a way that can be sustained over the long term.

Marcin also believes law firms should be prepared to challenge assumptions about how they have traditionally operated. At IMD, this has included fully flexible remote working, a four-day working week at full pay, greater use of technology and AI, and moving away from the billable hour towards value-based pricing.

Under Marcin’s leadership, IMD has received significant independent recognition. The firm has been named one of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work for three consecutive years, from 2024 to 2026, and won Medium Law Firm of the Year at the Manchester Legal Awards in 2026. In 2025, Marcin and Iwona were jointly named Managing Partner of the Year at the Modern Law Awards, while in 2026 Marcin was shortlisted for Legal Leader of the Year at the Law.com Leadership in Law Awards.

Marcin is a Council Member of Manchester Law Society and Chair of its International Committee, where his focus is on promoting Manchester as a global legal centre and building stronger international relationships between its legal community and professionals around the world. He is a member of the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA). He is an active contributor to its Law Firm Management Commission. He is also a member of Mensa, the international high-IQ society.

Marcin regularly speaks at national and international legal conferences and professional events, including Legal Geek and conferences organised by the UIA, on law firm leadership, innovation, sustainable growth and the future of legal services. He has also delivered a graduation address at Manchester Metropolitan University. His commentary and IMD’s initiatives have featured in The Times, The Law Society Gazette, the American Bar Association’s ABA Journal and other national and international legal and business media.

Outside work, Marcin enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, as well as travelling together and experiencing new places and cultures. He is a long-distance triathlete who competes in full Ironman events, having completed his first in 2023. His long-term ambition is to qualify for the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, and ultimately become an Ironman age-group world champion.
